Whenever a major honors show draws close, there’s always a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason cinema institutions avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely in 2014
- Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored that year
- Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories
Significance of Puzzle Games
These are often modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging across multiple categories.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
